NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) is a high-performance, scalable host controller interface designed to address the needs of Enterprise, Data Center and Client systems that utilize PCI Express (PCIe) based Solid State Drives (SSDs). It is a protocol that allows the CPU to communicate directly with the SSD, bypassing the traditional storage controller, resulting in faster data transfer rates and lower latency.
