CPU stands for Central Processing Unit, which is the primary component of a computer system that performs most of the processing tasks. It is also known as the brain of the computer. The CPU is responsible for executing a sequence of stored instructions called a program. It fetches the instructions from memory, decodes them, and then executes them. The CPU consists of two main components: the control unit and the arithmetic logic unit. The control unit fetches instructions from memory and directs the operation of the CPU, while the arithmetic logic unit performs arithmetic and logical operations on data. The speed of the CPU is measured in hertz (Hz) and is commonly referred to as clock speed. The higher the clock speed, the faster the CPU can execute instructions.
