Intrusion Detection Systems
Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) are security mechanisms that monitor network traffic or system activity for malicious activity or policy violations. IDS can be classified into two types: signature-based and anomaly-based. Signature-based IDS compare network traffic or system activity against a database of known attack patterns, while anomaly-based IDS establish a baseline of normal activity and alert when deviations occur. IDS can be deployed as network-based, host-based, or hybrid systems. Network-based IDS monitor network traffic and can detect attacks that target multiple hosts, while host-based IDS monitor system activity on a single host and can detect attacks that target specific vulnerabilities. IDS can generate alerts, logs, or reports when suspicious activity is detected, and can be configured to respond automatically to certain types of attacks.
