Network-based IDS

A Network-based Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) is a security mechanism that monitors network traffic for signs of malicious activity or policy violations. It analyzes network packets in real-time and compares them against a set of predefined rules or signatures to identify potential threats. NIDS can detect a wide range of attacks, including port scanning, denial-of-service (DoS) attacks, malware infections, and unauthorized access attempts. It can also provide valuable insights into network traffic patterns and help identify potential vulnerabilities in the network infrastructure. NIDS can be deployed as a standalone device or as part of a larger security architecture, and it can be configured to generate alerts or take automated actions in response to detected threats.
