Foreign Key Constraints

Foreign key constraints are rules that enforce the referential integrity between tables in a relational database. They ensure that the data in one table that refers to data in another table is valid and consistent. In other words, foreign key constraints maintain the relationships between tables by preventing actions that would destroy links between them. When a foreign key constraint is created, it specifies that the values in a column (or a set of columns) of one table must match the values in a column (or a set of columns) of another table. If a user tries to insert or update data that violates the foreign key constraint, the database management system will raise an error and prevent the action from being executed.
