Cryptographic Hash

A cryptographic hash function is a mathematical algorithm that takes input data of any size and produces a fixed-size output of data. The output, known as the hash value, is a unique representation of the input data. Cryptographic hash functions are designed to be one-way functions, meaning that it is practically impossible to reverse engineer the input data from the hash value. They are commonly used in data security applications such as digital signatures, message authentication codes, and password storage. Cryptographic hash functions must meet certain criteria to be considered secure, such as collision resistance, meaning that it is difficult to find two different input values that produce the same hash value.
