Collision Resistance

Collision resistance is a property of cryptographic hash functions that ensures that it is computationally infeasible to find two inputs that produce the same output, also known as a hash collision. In other words, given a hash function H, it is difficult to find two different messages M and N such that H(M) = H(N). Collision resistance is important in many cryptographic applications, such as digital signatures, message authentication codes, and password storage. A hash function that is not collision resistant can be vulnerable to attacks, such as birthday attacks, where an attacker can find collisions with less computational effort than brute force. Therefore, collision resistance is a crucial property for ensuring the security of cryptographic systems.
