In Data Science, cores refer to the processing units within a computer's central processing unit (CPU) that can execute multiple tasks simultaneously. Cores are essential for parallel processing, which is the ability to perform multiple computations simultaneously. In data science, parallel processing is used to speed up the processing of large datasets and complex algorithms. The number of cores in a CPU can range from a few to dozens, and the more cores a CPU has, the more tasks it can perform simultaneously. However, not all tasks can be parallelized, and some algorithms may not benefit from additional cores beyond a certain point. Therefore, it is important to optimize the use of cores for specific tasks and algorithms.
