Registers
Registers are small, fast storage locations within the central processing unit (CPU) that are used to quickly accept, store, and transfer data and instructions that are being used immediately by the CPU. Registers are an essential component of the CPU and are used to perform arithmetic and logical operations, store memory addresses, and hold intermediate results during program execution. Registers are typically measured in bits, with the size of the register determining the maximum amount of data that can be stored within it. In modern CPUs, there are many different types of registers, including general-purpose registers, special-purpose registers, and control registers.
