Mass-to-charge Ratio

Mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) is a physical quantity that is commonly used in the analysis of mass spectrometry data. It is defined as the ratio of the mass of an ion to its charge. Mass spectrometry is a technique used to identify and quantify molecules based on their mass-to-charge ratio. The sample is ionized and the resulting ions are separated based on their mass-to-charge ratio using an electric or magnetic field. The resulting mass spectrum provides information about the molecular weight and chemical composition of the sample. Mass-to-charge ratio is an important parameter in many areas of science, including chemistry, physics, and biology.
