Kernel Functions
In data science and machine learning, kernel functions are mathematical functions that transform data into a higher-dimensional space, allowing for more complex analysis and classification. They are commonly used in support vector machines (SVMs) and other algorithms for pattern recognition, regression analysis, and clustering. Kernel functions measure the similarity between two data points and can be linear or nonlinear. Nonlinear kernel functions, such as radial basis function (RBF) and polynomial kernels, are often used to capture complex relationships between data points that cannot be easily represented in a lower-dimensional space.
