Discrete Random Variable

In probability theory and statistics, a discrete random variable is a variable that can take on a countable number of distinct values. It is characterized by a probability mass function (PMF) that gives the probability of each possible value. Examples of discrete random variables include the number of heads in a series of coin flips, the number of cars passing through a toll booth in a given hour, and the number of defects in a batch of products. Discrete random variables are important in data science and artificial intelligence because they can be used to model and analyze a wide range of phenomena, from customer behavior to machine performance. They are often used in statistical inference, machine learning, and decision making.
