Direct Memory Access
Direct Memory Access (DMA) is a feature of computer systems that allows certain hardware subsystems to access main system memory (Random Access Memory) independently of the central processing unit (CPU). This enables data to be transferred directly between devices without the need for CPU intervention, freeing up the CPU to perform other tasks. DMA is commonly used in high-speed data transfer applications, such as disk drive controllers, network cards, and graphics cards. DMA can significantly improve system performance by reducing the load on the CPU and minimizing data transfer latency.
