DMA

DMA stands for Direct Memory Access. It is a feature of computer systems that allows hardware devices to access system memory for data transfer without the intervention of the central processing unit (CPU). DMA is used to improve the performance of input/output (I/O) operations by reducing the workload of the CPU. In DMA, the device controller takes control of the system bus and transfers data directly to or from memory. This frees up the CPU to perform other tasks while the data transfer is taking place. DMA is commonly used in high-speed data transfer applications such as disk drives, network cards, and graphics cards.
