Collisions

In data science, collisions refer to the situation where two or more distinct pieces of data are mapped to the same location in a data structure, such as a hash table. Collisions can occur when the hash function used to map data to locations in the data structure is not perfect, resulting in multiple pieces of data being mapped to the same location. Collisions can be resolved using various techniques, such as chaining or open addressing. Resolving collisions is an important consideration in designing efficient data structures for storing and retrieving data.
