Integrated Circuits

Integrated circuits (ICs) are miniaturized electronic circuits that are composed of multiple interconnected transistors and other components on a single semiconductor wafer or chip. ICs are the building blocks of modern electronics and have revolutionized the field of electronics by enabling the creation of smaller, faster, and more powerful electronic devices. ICs are used in a wide range of applications, including computers, smartphones, medical devices, and automobiles. There are two main types of ICs: analog and digital. Analog ICs are used to process continuous signals, such as sound and radio waves, while digital ICs are used to process discrete signals, such as binary code. ICs are designed using computer-aided design (CAD) software and are manufactured using a process called photolithography, which involves the use of light to etch patterns onto a silicon wafer. The size of ICs has decreased dramatically over the years, with the number of transistors on a single chip increasing from a few hundred in the 1960s to billions today.
