Chromatin Remodeling
Chromatin remodeling is the process of altering the structure of chromatin, the complex of DNA and proteins that make up chromosomes, to allow access to DNA for transcription, replication, and repair. This process is essential for gene regulation and is mediated by chromatin remodeling complexes that use ATP hydrolysis to move, eject, or restructure nucleosomes. Chromatin remodeling can be classified into two categories: ATP-dependent and ATP-independent. ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling involves the use of ATP to alter the position or composition of nucleosomes, while ATP-independent chromatin remodeling involves the use of histone chaperones or other proteins to alter chromatin structure. Dysregulation of chromatin remodeling has been implicated in various diseases, including cancer and developmental disorders.
