Test Statistic
In statistics, a test statistic is a numerical summary of a set of data that is used to determine whether to reject the null hypothesis. It is calculated from the sample data and compared to a critical value or p-value to determine the statistical significance of the results. The choice of test statistic depends on the type of hypothesis being tested and the nature of the data. Common test statistics include t-tests, F-tests, and chi-squared tests. A test statistic is used to make inferences about the population from which the sample was drawn, and to determine whether the results are likely due to chance or to a real effect. It is an important tool in hypothesis testing and statistical inference.
