Public-key Cryptography

Public-key cryptography, also known as asymmetric cryptography, is a cryptographic system that uses two keys, a public key and a private key, to encrypt and decrypt data. The public key is used to encrypt the data and can be freely distributed, while the private key is kept secret and is used to decrypt the data. This system allows for secure communication over an insecure channel, as anyone can encrypt data using the public key, but only the owner of the private key can decrypt it. Public-key cryptography is widely used in digital signatures, key exchange, and secure communication protocols such as SSL/TLS.
