Linear Combination
In data science, a linear combination is a mathematical expression that consists of a sum of variables each multiplied by a constant. It is a fundamental concept in linear algebra and is used extensively in machine learning and data analysis. In linear regression, for example, the model is a linear combination of the input variables. Similarly, in principal component analysis, the principal components are linear combinations of the original variables. Linear combinations are also used in feature engineering, where new features are created by combining existing features in a linear manner. The coefficients of the linear combination can be learned from the data using various optimization techniques such as gradient descent.
