HIPAA
HIPAA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. It is a US law that provides data privacy and security provisions for safeguarding medical information. HIPAA compliance is mandatory for all healthcare providers, health plans, and healthcare clearinghouses that handle protected health information (PHI). The act includes regulations for the use, disclosure, and protection of PHI, as well as guidelines for breach notification and patient rights. HIPAA also requires covered entities to implement administrative, physical, and technical safeguards to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of electronic PHI (ePHI).
