Electron Microscopes

Electron microscopes are scientific instruments that use a beam of highly energetic electrons to examine objects on a very fine scale. They are capable of producing images with a resolution up to 50 times greater than that of a light microscope. Electron microscopes are widely used in materials science, biology, and other fields to study the structure and properties of materials and biological specimens. There are two main types of electron microscopes: transmission electron microscopes (TEM) and scanning electron microscopes (SEM). TEMs use a thin sample that is transparent to electrons, while SEMs scan the surface of a sample with a focused beam of electrons to produce a three-dimensional image. Electron microscopes require a high vacuum environment to operate, and samples must be prepared carefully to avoid damage from the electron beam.
