Data Link Layer
In computer networking, the Data Link Layer is the second layer of the OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) model. It is responsible for the reliable transfer of data between adjacent network nodes and provides the functional and procedural means to transfer data between network entities and to detect and possibly correct errors that may occur in the Physical Layer. The Data Link Layer is divided into two sublayers: Logical Link Control (LLC) and Media Access Control (MAC). The LLC sublayer provides flow control and multiplexing for the data being transferred, while the MAC sublayer controls access to the physical medium. The Data Link Layer is implemented in hardware and software.
