Checksum is a technique used to verify the integrity of data transmitted over a network or stored in a file. It involves the calculation of a unique value based on the data being transmitted or stored, which is then compared to the value calculated at the receiving end. If the two values match, it is assumed that the data has not been corrupted during transmission or storage. Checksums are commonly used in data communication protocols such as TCP/IP, as well as in file transfer protocols such as FTP and HTTP. They are also used in data storage systems such as RAID arrays to detect and correct errors in stored data.
