Access Control

Access Control is a security technique that regulates who or what can view or use resources in a computing environment. It is a fundamental concept in data security that minimizes risk to the business or organization. Access control systems can be physical, technical, or administrative. Physical access control limits access to buildings, rooms, and physical IT assets. Technical access control limits access to computer systems, networks, and data. Administrative access control limits access to sensitive information and controls the actions of users within the system. Access control systems use authentication and authorization to ensure that only authorized users can access resources. Authentication is the process of verifying the identity of a user, device, or application. Authorization is the process of granting or denying access to a resource based on the authenticated user's permissions. Access control is a critical component of data security and is used in various industries, including healthcare, finance, and government.
