Independent Component Analysis

Independent Component Analysis (ICA) is a statistical technique used in data science and artificial intelligence to separate a set of mixed signals into their underlying independent components. It is a blind source separation method that assumes the observed signals are linear mixtures of unknown source signals. The goal of ICA is to estimate the original source signals by finding a linear transformation that maximizes their statistical independence. Unlike other dimensionality reduction techniques, ICA does not assume that the sources are Gaussian or have any specific distribution. Instead, it aims to find a transformation that maximizes the non-Gaussianity of the sources, as measured by their statistical independence. ICA has applications in various fields, including image processing, speech recognition, and biomedical signal analysis. It is particularly useful in scenarios where the sources are mixed together and their individual contributions need to be identified and separated. By decomposing the mixed signals into their independent components, ICA enables researchers to gain insights into the underlying structure and dynamics of the data.
