Clinical Research
Clinical research is a branch of medical science that determines the safety and effectiveness of medications, devices, diagnostic products, and treatment regimens intended for human use. It involves the study of human subjects through observation or intervention, with the aim of improving the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. Clinical research is conducted in phases, with each phase designed to answer specific questions about the safety and efficacy of the intervention being studied. The phases include preclinical research, phase I, phase II, phase III, and phase IV. Preclinical research involves laboratory testing of the intervention in animals, while phase I involves testing the intervention in a small group of healthy volunteers. Phase II involves testing the intervention in a larger group of patients with the disease or condition being studied, while phase III involves testing the intervention in an even larger group of patients. Phase IV involves post-marketing surveillance of the intervention after it has been approved for use. Clinical research is regulated by national and international guidelines to ensure the protection of human subjects and the integrity of the data generated.
