UNSD M49

UNSD M49 is a standard for reporting and displaying country or area data developed by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD). It provides a hierarchical classification system for geographic areas, grouping countries and territories into regions and subregions based on geographical location and other characteristics. The classification system is widely used in data collection, analysis, and dissemination, particularly in the fields of international development, trade, and security. The M49 standard includes three levels of classification: regions, subregions, and countries or areas. Each country or area is assigned a unique three-digit code, which is used to identify and compare data across different regions and subregions. The M49 standard is regularly updated to reflect changes in the geopolitical landscape and to ensure that it remains relevant and useful for data users.
