Left-censoring

Left-censoring is a statistical method used in data analysis to handle incomplete data where the values below a certain threshold are not observed or recorded. In other words, left-censoring occurs when the data is truncated from below, meaning that the values below a certain threshold are not available. This can happen in various situations, such as when measuring the concentration of a substance in a sample, where the instrument used to measure the concentration has a lower limit of detection. Left-censoring can be addressed by using statistical models that take into account the censored data, such as maximum likelihood estimation or survival analysis. These models can provide estimates of the parameters of interest, such as the mean or median, and can also be used to make predictions or perform hypothesis testing.
