Error-detecting Codes

Error-detecting codes are codes that are used to detect and correct errors that occur during data transmission or storage. These codes are designed to add redundancy to the data being transmitted or stored, so that errors can be detected and corrected. The most common type of error-detecting code is the checksum, which involves adding up all the bytes in a message and appending the result to the message. When the message is received, the checksum is recalculated and compared to the original checksum. If the two checksums do not match, an error has occurred. Other types of error-detecting codes include parity codes, cyclic redundancy checks (CRC), and Hamming codes.
