Cyclic Redundancy Checks
Cyclic Redundancy Checks (CRC) is a type of error-detecting code commonly used in digital networks and storage devices to detect accidental changes to raw data. It works by generating a checksum, which is a fixed-size, unique value derived from the data being checked. The checksum is appended to the data and transmitted or stored along with it. When the data is later retrieved, the checksum is recalculated and compared to the original checksum. If the two values match, the data is assumed to be error-free. If they do not match, an error has occurred and the data must be retransmitted or retrieved from a backup source.
