Chi-squared Statistic

Chi-squared statistic is a measure of the difference between the expected and observed frequencies of a categorical variable. It is used to determine whether there is a significant association between two categorical variables. The test involves calculating the sum of the squared differences between the observed and expected frequencies, divided by the expected frequencies. The resulting value is compared to a critical value from the chi-squared distribution to determine whether the difference is statistically significant. Chi-squared statistic is commonly used in hypothesis testing, goodness-of-fit tests, and contingency table analysis.
